How You Can Help
Supplies
Even if a child receives sponsorship one of the major barriers in acquiring high school education or even staying in school is not having the means to buy basic school supplies or access medical care. Government funding does not cover school supplies or even one textbook per student. We work directly with schools and ascertain students' needs. The orders are based on specifications from the school - Uniform as specified, textbooks according to grade, supplies and bedding. The purchases are made with local suppliers – this is done to promote local trade. .
| Some Suggested Funding Levels and Options. You may designate where you would like your donation to go. | |
|---|---|
| $50 CAN | School supplies for a child for one year including stationery, transport. |
| $75 CAN | Medical care. |
| $100 CAN | Computer literacy training for sponsored students who have not taken computer classes at school |
Endowment:
Interest from the endowment fund in Canada goes for educational projects and scholarships as needed. This may be an option for you if you wish your money to be used for future priorities.

Though many schools are technically “free”, government funding does not cover boarding, uniforms, books and many extras. Marginalized children, including children living in poverty, children in isolated rural communities, disabled children and orphans do not even have the means for the basics needed for school including mandatory uniforms, supplies, boarding fees, and minor medical attention. The cost of supporting a child for a year is around $500 CDN dollars. Partial donations can be combined with other sponsors.
One time payment options:
$500 - Scholarship for a year for 1 Child at Secondary School including uniform, boarding in term time, some supplies
$1000 - Scholarship for a year for 2 Children at Secondary School
$1500 - Scholarship for a year for 3 Children at Secondary School
$2000 - Scholarship for a year for 4 Children at Secondary School or one student at Post Secondary.
OF INTEREST TO CANADIAN DONORS:
THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT HAS ELIMINATED ANY CAPITAL GAINS ON PUBLICLY LISTED SECURITIES AND MUTUAL FUNDS THAT ARE DONATED TO A REGISTERED CHARITY AND HAS INCREASED THE LIMIT SO THAT PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO CLAIM UP TO 75% OF THEIR NET INCOME AND CARRY FORWARD ANY EXCESSES FOR FIVE SUBSEQUENT YEARS. THIS RULE CHANGE HAS PROMPTED MANY PEOPLE TO REDIRECT STOCK SALES TO CHARITY RATHER THAN SEE 50% OF THEIR GAINS ULTIMATELY TAXED AS INCOME.
ALL CANADIANS CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE TAX CHANEGS. CHARITABLE GIVING IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO REDUCE TAX BURDENS. A $1 GIFT TO CHARITY BECOMES A $1 TAX CREDIT. A GIFT MADE IN STOCK CAN HAVE A DOUBLE BENEFIT, REDUCING BOTH CAPITAL GAINS TAXES AND INCOME TAXES AT THE SAME TIME.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO REALIZE INVESTMENTS, CONSIDER DONATING TO KEEF. FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT YOUR FINANCIAL ADVISER AND COMMUNICATE WITH THE TREASURER FOR KEEF, PEG KLESNER.

KEEF will send all donors a profile of their sponsored child/children and will provide regular updates at least once a year. Scholarship funding will be allocated on a priority basis by KEEF unless a donor has a particular preference for a child and/or school that he/she would like to support. (Preferences can be noted on the donation form). Donors are encouraged to visit and correspond with their benefactors at any time.
PLEASE NOTE THAT COSTS HAVE RISEN ENORMOUSLY IN KENYA SINCE THE RECENT TURMOIL. ALTHOUGH WE ABIDE BY OUR REQUEST FOR $500 PER STUDENT WE WOULD GRATEFULLY ACCEPT ANY ADDITIONAL DONATIONS YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE.
